Dear Families,
I wanted to take this opportunity to extend my deepest sympathy to the Bend-La Pine community. Like so many of you, we are heartbroken to learn of the tragedy. It shakes parents, guardians, and educators to our core when violence enters a school and impacts precious children and the adults who care for them every day.
When news like this occurs, it is completely natural for young children to feel worried or have difficult questions. We want to reassure you that our school is a safe, caring environment, and we are here to support your child. If you feel your student needs extra comfort or a trusted adult to talk to, please do not hesitate to reach out.
Please also know that we work together every day as a strong, caring community to keep our students safe. Our staff trains on safety response protocols regularly throughout the year. We conduct safety drills with students and carefully review our emergency procedures because we take this preparation very seriously.
As an extra layer of reassurance, local law enforcement will be visible around our local schools today. Their presence is strictly precautionary to help our families and children feel secure throughout the day.
Our sympathies remain with the students, staff, and families of Bend-La Pine during this incredibly difficult time, and our ongoing care and support are with our 4J community.
Warmly,
Sheila Minney
